Summary
The better things I put in my awareness, the better things I'm able to create
I’m always seeking:
- Good art.
- Good food.
- Good hikes.
- Good music.
- Good books.
- Good stories.
- Good people.
- Good movies.
- Good software.
- Good information.
- Good architecture.
- Good sports teams.
- Good conversations.
The better things I bring into my awareness, the better things I'm able to create. I think of this as an ‘information diet’.
How do I know I’m intaking something good?
When “the thing” makes you feel good. It gives you more energy. You begin to get curious. You start questioning things to understand how it came to be:
- Who’s the person who created it?
- What’s their background?
- What are they passionate about?
- Why are they so passionate about their craft?
- What inspires them?
- Who are they inspired by?
- Why does it inspire them?
- Why do other people think it’s good?
- How do other people describe it?
- How do they say it makes them feel?
- Why does it make them feel that way?
By asking these questions, I’m always able to expand my web of inspiration. I’m able to see interconnections between other products, people, and subjects.
Additionally, the deeper I go with questions like these, the more information I get, which further leads to more inspiration.
If I’m always surrounded by greatness, how can I possibly make something that’s not great?
